The process by which tissue that has been damaged through an injury is repaired. Wound healing is a biological process that can be speeded up or aided by surgical intervention.
A wound that is surgically closed is said to heal through primary intention. Wounds can be surgically closed with sutures, staples or tissue glue.
A wound that is more than 8 hours old, infected or has loss of tissue preventing full surgical repair is said to heal by secondary intention. The tissue repair (granulation) takes place from the inside out, i.e., from the deepest part of the wound toward the surface.

Processus de réparation des tissus de l'organisme après lésion. On distingue cicatrisation primaire et cicatrisation secondaire.
Le terme de cicatrisation primaire s'applique à des plaies guéries par première intention (per primam intentionem). La quantité de tissus lésés est faible, la plaie présente des berges rapprochées, peu ou pas de perte de substances et l'intervention, si intervention il y a, se passe 6 à 8 heures après la blessure. On peut fermer la blessure par agrafe, par suture ou par collage (colle tissulaire ou cutanée).
La cicatrisation peut être dite secondaire, dirigée ou par seconde intention (per secundam intentionem). Elle est alors plus lente, la perte tissulaire est importante (ou il y a nécrose des tissus, que l'on élimine alors par détersion), les berges de la plaie ne sont pas réunies, de nouveaux tissus apparaissent (tissus de granulation).

Eine in Phasen ablaufende, mit dem Schluss der Oberfläche endende Ausfüllung einer Wunde durch Gewebe. Man unterscheidet die primäre und die sekundäre Wundheilung.
Eine primäre Wundheilung findet bei chirurgisch gesetzten Wunden und Gewebsdefekten statt sofern sie nicht zu gross sind und innerhalb von 6-8 Stunden versorgt werden. Der Wundverschluss erfolgt mit Klammern, Naht oder Wundkleber.
Eine sekundäre Wundheilung findet bei infizierten Wunden oder bei Gewebsdefekten statt, bei welchen die Wundränder nicht sauber vernäht werden können und die ausgehend von den tieferen Schichten zuheilen.
