A horse used to pull a load. The draught horse used to be a working horse used in many industries such as agriculture, transport, mining or forestry. These days the draught horse is more likely to be used as a carriage horse for leisure or sporting purposes.

Cheval de travail spécialisé dans la traction. On utilisait autrefois les puissants chevaux de trait pour les travaux agricoles et miniers et les transports. Ce terme est réservé aux chevaux lourds.
Les chevaux et les poneys utilisés pour les courses de trot et d'attelage ne sont pas qualifiés de "chevaux de trait".

Auf Zuglast spezialisiertes Arbeitspferd. Das klassische Zugpferd wurde früher für die Arbeit in der Landwirtschaft, im Bergbau und als Zugpferd im öffentlichen Nahverkehr eingesetzt, während es heutzutage mehr Pferde und Ponys im Fahr- und Trabrennsport gibt.

cold-blooded horse
Heavy draught horses are refered to as cold blooded due to their docile temperament. They are generally heavier than warmblood horses and can reach bodyweights in excess of 1000 kg.
