electric welding
A welding technique that uses an electric arc between an electrode and the piece of metal to create localised heat great enough to melt the metal. The electric arc is created by a strong power supply. If using a consumable electrode, the metal of the electrode will melt onto the piece of metal it is heating and act as a filler or add an additional layer of metal to the base. This type of welding is used to apply the hard surfacing to parts of the horseshoe subject to increased wear.

Dans ce type de soudage, on utilise comme source de chaleur un arc électrique établi entre une électrode et la pièce à souder. Du fait de la haute température de l'arc électrique, la pièce fond au point de soudure voulue, l'électrode enrobée fond et fournit ainsi le métal d'apport. On forme ainsi un cordon de soudure.
Cette technique est utilisée en maréchalerie pour le rechargement par soudure des fers.

Bei diesem Schweissverfahren wird ein elektrischer Lichtbogen, der zwischen einer Elektrode und dem Werkstück brennt, als Wärmequelle zum Schweissen genutzt. Durch die hohe Temperatur des Lichtbogens wird der Werkstoff an der Schweissstelle aufgeschmolzen, die Stabelektrode schmilzt als Zusatzwerkstoff ab und bildet eine Schweissraupe. Diese Technik wird am Hufeisen zum Aufbringen des Hartauftrages verwendet (Auftragsschweissen).

forge welding
A technique used to join two pieces of metal by heating them to a high temperature in the forge (until they asume a glossy, slightly liquid appearance) and then joining them together using pressure (for instance by striking with a hammer). This technique has been used since ancient times, these days it has been largely replaced by electrical or gas welding methods.

metal inert gas welding (MIGW)
This is a semi-automatic or automatic arc welding process in which a continuous and consumable wire electrode is fed through a welding gun under constant application of a shielding gas (usually carbon dioxide or argon).

Procédé de soudage à l'arc. Le soudeur active simultanément le fil d'apport, dévidé à vitesse constante et de façon motorisée, et la protection gazeuse: la buse à gaz diffuse le gaz de protection (dioxyde de carbone ou gaz rare - souvent l'argon) afin d'éviter une oxydation.
Note: MIG signifie Metal inert gas et MAG Metal active gas. On les utilise selon le type de gaz employé.

oxyacetylene welding
Welding technique by which a fuel gas and oxygen (oxyacetylene) is used via a torch to heat the pieces of metal to a point where both surfaces melt. It is usual to supply an additional pool of molten metal (known as a filler) to increase the adhesion of the metal pieces.
