A wedge is an object that is thick at one end and narrows to a sharp edge on the other end. The application of a wedge when shoeing can influence the angle of the hoof as well as the balance and movement of the hoof both in the latero-medial and in the dorso-palmar/plantar direction. There are a multitude of different types of wedges, some only lie between the web of the branch and the bearing edge, others are complete sole covering inserts or pads. They are made from plastic, leather or a combination of both. Alternatives to wedges are thickened wedge shaped branches in which extra material has been welded on.

Accessoire dont les surfaces supérieure et inférieure forment un angle (de 2 à 5°) et que l'on insère entre le fer et le sabot. On peut utiliser les talonnettes lors du ferrage afin de modifier l'angle d'appui du sabot et donc influencer la biomécanique du membre. Il existe des talonnettes en différentes matières : plastique, cuir, bois… Elles peuvent aussi être faites de plusieurs composants.

Ein Keil ist ein Körper, bei welchem zwei Seitenflächen zu einem spitzen Winkel zusammenlaufen. Durch die Verwendung von Keilen beim Beschlag des Pferdehufes kann Einfluss auf die Ausrichtung der Zehenachse und Winkelung des Hufes, die Bewegung in sagittaler und transversaler Ebene und somit auf die Biomechanik der Gliedmasse genommen werden. Im Hufbeschlag finden sowohl Keile, als auch keilförmige Sohlen aus verschiedenen Materialien wie Plastik oder Leder Verwendung.
