Jacobson's organ
A sensory structure located in the wall of the nasal cavity that is lined with olfactory receptors (sense of smell), specialised in recognising pheromones and other scents. When a horse exhibits the flehmen response, it is making use of this structure to 'analyse' a scent.

Organe olfactif ayant la forme de deux tubes. Ils sont localisés à la base du septum nasal et s'ouvrent sur la cavité nasale.
Les cellules de l'organe de Jacobson permettent aux animaux de réagir à certaines substances, concernant les mammifères surtout aux phéromones (comme par exemple la copuline), qui permettent aux animaux de communiquer entre eux.

Geruchsorgan in Form einer winzigen Einbuchtung auf beiden Seiten der Nasenscheidewand. Die Sinneszellen des Jacobson-Organs sind auf die geruchliche (olfaktorische) Wahrnehmung bestimmter Stoffe spezialisiert, bei Säugetieren vor allem auf Pheromone (Kopuline).
