seating-out
The inner edge of the foot surface of the shoe is set down, creating a saucer shape across approximately half the width of the web (up to the nail holes). This creates a shoe which is thicker at the outside edge than the inside edge. Seating out is applied from the toe to the widest part of the shoe, no further back than the last nail hole as the heels require as much cover and support as possible. The purpose of a seated shoe is to relieve pressure from the sole. A more pronounced concavity of the inner edge, known as deep-seating is used for horses with dropped (convex) soles.

Gegen den inneren Rand hin abgeschrägte (abgeschmiedete) Sohlenseite des Hufeisens. Der äussere Hufeisenrand ist folgedessen dicker als der Innere. Bei der englischen Abdachung erstreckt sich die Abschrägung vom inneren Eisenrand bis zu den Nagellöchern und verläuft beidseits von der Zehenpartie bis zum letzten Nagelloch. Die Abdachung dient dazu, einen allfälligen Druck des inneren Hufeisenrandes auf die Sohle zu verhindern.
