seated shoe, french style
In a seated or deep seated shoe, french style, the foot surface of the shoe is beaten down to an even slope across the entire width of the web; the outer edge of the shoe is thicker than the inner edge. The seated section runs from the toe to the level of the last nail hole and its purpose is to relieve pressure from the sole adjacent to the sole/wall junction.

Le fer a été « ajusté » à la forge pour être rendu concave en face supérieure, de la rive externe vers la rive interne. Gardant la même épaisseur sur toute sa couverture, il est convexe en face inférieure, de la rive externe vers la rive interne. Son rôle est de prévenir les compressions de la sole et de faciliter la bascule du pied en fin d'appui dans toutes les directions.

Gegen den inneren Rand hin abgeschrägte (abgeschmiedete) Sohlenseite des Hufeisens. Der äussere Hufeisenrand ist folgedessen dicker als der Innere. Bei der französischen Abdachung erstreckt sich die Abschrägung über die ganze Eisenbreite und verläuft beidseits von der Zehenpartie bis zum letzten Nagelloch. Die Abdachung dient dazu, einen allfälligen Druck des inneren Hufeisenrandes auf die Sohle zu verhindern.
