A group of structures in the palmar/plantar region of the hoof including the navicular bone and its ligaments, the podotrochlear bursa and the most distal portion of the deep digital flexor tendon as it runs over the navicular bone and inserts on the coffin bone. The syndrome known as navicular disease can involve degenerative changes to any one or several of these structures.

Région définie à l'intérieur du sabot, composée de l'ensemble des éléments anatomiques formant la podotrochlée (poulie du pied) notamment: l'extrémité distale du tendon fléchisseur profond, l'os sésamoïde distale (naviculaire) et ses ligaments, de la bourse podotrochléaire... L'os naviculaire, avec la bourse podotrochléaire, joue le rôle d'une poulie directionnelle pour l'extrémité distale du tendon fléchisseur profond (aponévrose).
Lors des maladies dites naviculaires (ulcère de l'os naviculaire, boiterie naviculaire...), une ou plusieurs parties anatomiques citées plus haut sont touchées par des processus inflammatoires ou dégénératifs.

Definierter Bereich im Inneren des Hufes, welcher sich aus dem unteren Abschnitt der tiefen Beugesehne, dem Strahlbein mit seinen Bändern und dem Hufrollenschleimbeutel (Bursa podotrochlearis) zusammensetzt.
Das Strahlbein mit dem Hufrollenschleimbeutel dient als gepolsterte Umlenkrolle für den unteren Anteil der tiefen Beugesehne.
Bei der sogenannten Hufrollenerkrankung (Podotrochlose, Strahlbeinerkrankung, Strahlbeinlahmheit) sind einer oder mehrere der genannten Anteile von entzündlichen oder degenerativen Prozessen betroffen.
