tungsten pin
Small pins made from steel alloyed with tungsten carbide that are extremely wear resistant. These pins are inserted into the horseshoes, generally at the end of the branches and sometimes (particularly on carriage and draft horses) also in the toe, to improve the traction of the shoe on hard ground.

Ces pointes sont utilisées sur les protections de sabot comme moyen supplémentaire pour ne pas glisser. Elles sont généralement placées en éponge.

Les chevaux de transport ou de bât sont couramment équipés de telles pointes en pince afin d'assurer une meilleure prise lors de la propulsion.

Hartmetallstifte sind Hilfsmittel, welche als zusätzlicher Gleitschutz am Hufschutz angebracht werden können. Sie werden in der Regel an den Rutenenden eingesetzt. Bei Pferden, die hauptsächlich auf weichem Untergrund arbeiten (Rennpferde) wird in der Regel darauf verzichtet. Bei Fahr- oder Bastpferden werden gerne zusätzliche Stifte im Zehenbereich angebracht. Diese verbessern den Halt beim forcierten Abstossen der Gliedmasse.
