second phalanx (P2)

short pastern bone

The middle bone in the pastern of the horse, forming the proximal interphalangeal joint(pastern joint) with the proximal phalanx (long pastern bone) and distal interphalangeal joint (coffin joint) with the distal phalanx (coffin bone) and the navicular bone. The superficial digital flexor tendoninserts on the proximalextremity on the palmar/plantar aspect of the bone.

Mittlerer Zehenknochen, welcher nach oben mit dem Fesselbein das Krongelenk bildet und nach unten mit Hufbein und Strahlbein das Hufgelenk. Hinten (palmar/plantar) oben (proximal) am Knochen ist die sogenannte Kronbeinlehne, die Ansatzstelle für die oberflächliche Beugesehne (M. flexor digitorum longum), die deshalb auch Kronbeinbeuger genannt wird.
