Small oval or kidney-shaped organs which are part of the lymphatic and the immune systems. Their function is to filter the lymph for pathogens and to present these to cells of the immune system (white blood cells or leukocytes) that are present within the node. Lymph nodes are commonly found below the jaw, within the trunk, or near joints (e.g. in the axillary region). Swollen lymph nodes can be indicative of diseases (e.g. bacterial infections, or even cancer) and they can get infected themselves (notably Strangles, caused by infection through Streptococcus equi equi bacteria).

Kleine ovale oder nierenförmige Organe, die Teil des Lymph- und Immunsystems sind. Ihre Funktion besteht darin, die Lymphe nach Krankheitserregern zu filtern und diese den Zellen des Immunsystems (weiße Blutkörperchen) zu präsentieren. Lymphknoten befinden sich häufig unter dem Kiefer, im Rumpf oder in der Nähe von Gelenken (z. B. in den Achseln). Geschwollene Lymphknoten können auf Krankheiten (z. B. bakterielle Infektionen oder sogar Krebs) hinweisen und können sich selbst infizieren.
