local anesthesia

An induced local loss of sensitivity due to application of a local anaesthetic agent (a drug which prevents nerves from transmitting a signal). There are several forms; regional anaesthesia (blocking a specific nerve or nerves so that a defined area such as a the distallimb is anaesthetised), infiltrative or local anaesthesia (infiltrating a small part of the body such as a joint of a patch of skin through direct application of a local anaesthetic).

Anesthésie de terminaisons nerveuses ou de voies nerveuses spécifiques, circonscrite localement et réalisée grâce à un anesthésique local. On distingue l'anesthésie topique et l'infiltration, réalisées à proximité du nerf à endormir, de l'anesthésie loco-régionale, qui permet d'insensibiliser une plus grande région et ainsi de réaliser des interventions de plus grande envergure.
