inflammation

Inflammation is a biological response to harmful stimuli such as damaged cells due to injury, chemical irritants or invading micro-organisms. It is an attempt by the body to remove the injurious stimuli and to initiate the healing process; without inflammation, wounds and infections would never heal. It is important to note that inflammation is not a synonym for infection, even in cases where inflammation is caused by infection.

Typical signs of inflammation include swelling, reddening, heat, pain and loss of normal function.

L'inflammation est une réaction de l'organisme en réponse à une agression et aux dommages en résultant. Une inflammation peut avoir des causes mécaniques, chimiques ou physiques. La pénétration d'agents pathogènes (par exemple: bactéries, virus, champignons) dans l'organisme peut aussi provoquer une inflammation.

Les signes typiques d'une inflammation sont: une rougeur (rubor), un gonflement (tumor), une sensation de chaleur (calor), une altération des fonctions (functio lesae) des parties touchées.

Unter Entzündung versteht man die Reaktion des Organismus auf einen Reiz und den damit entstandenen Zellschaden. Eine Entzündung kann durch mechanische, chemische oder physikalische Reize entstehen. Auch das Eindringens  eines  Krankheitserregers in den Organismus kann eine Entzündung hervorrufen (z.B. Bakterien, Viren und Pilze).

Die typischen Zeichen eine Entzündung sind: Rötung (Rubor), Schwellung (Tumor), Wärme (Calor) und die Funktionseinschränkung (Functio lesae) des betroffenen Körperteiles.
