The process of adjusting a shoe and repeatedly checking it for fit against the hoof. In hot shoeing, the shaping process is carried out on a heated shoe and the fitting involves searing of the hot shoe onto the hoof.

Phase du ferrage où le fer est "tourné" à froid ou à chaud, généralement à l'enclume, de façon à correspondre au sabot.Il est présenté au sabot (froid au chaud) afin de vérifier la tournure et de pouvoir l'ajuster le plus précisement possible. Ce procédé peut être renouvelé plusieurs fois, mais à chaque fois brièvement s'il est fait à chaud, afin de ne pas brûler trop de corne. Dans l'ajustage à chaud, le métal doit être travaillé sur l'enclume à la bonne température; lorsque le fer ajusté fait corps avec la forme du sabot, il est prêt pour le brochage.

Beim Warm-Aufrichten erfolgt die Bearbeitung des Eisens am Amboss (Richten) im glühenden Zustand; der Vorgang des Aufrichtens wird mit dem Aufbrennen des warmen Eisens auf den Tragrand abgeschlossen um eine perfekte Passform zu erreichen.

A small anvil used by the mobile farrier to fit and adjust prefabricated shoes. Fitting anvils are smaller and lighter than the stationary anvils found in forges and can easily be moved around and placed in the vicinity of the horse being shod.

full fitting
Full-fitting of a shoe so that it extends slightly beyond the hoof wall behind the widest part of the hoof. This is done to prevent the heels from growing over the outer edge of the shoe during the shoeing interval.

hot fitting tongs
Carrying tongs consist of a pair of handles joined at the base with a rivet. The ends of the handles are curved and their points are tapered to fit the nail holes. Their shape depends on the style of shoeing being practiced.
