exostosis

splint

Superficially visible proliferation of bone which occurs after physical overstimulation of the periosteum. This may be the result of trauma or of repeated strain.

A splint is the most frequantly encountered form of exostosis and occurs at the junction between the cannon bone (3rd metacarpal/metatarsal bone) and the splint bones (2nd and 4th metacarpal/metatarsal bones). Depending on their size and location, they may lead to lameness.

Prolifération osseuse visible en surface, survenant suite à une réaction du périoste soumis à une contrainte ou une irritation chronique, ou suite à un traumatisme ou une blessure.

Les suros se trouvent souvent au niveau du canon, à la jonction de l'os métacarpien principal et de l'os métacarpien rudimentaire (os métacarpes ou métatarses II et IV).

Les suros ne sont pas graves en soi, mais peuvent gêner la mobilité d'un ligament, d'un tendon ou d'une articulation et conduire à une boiterie.

Äusserlich sichtbare Umfangsvermehrung an der Knochenoberfläche, welche durch eine Reaktion der Knochenhaut auf einen chronischen Reiz entsteht.

Häufig im Bereich der Röhre am Übergang zwischen Röhrbein und Griffelbein. Solche Überbeine können je nach Lage zu einer Lahmheit führen.
