A type of closed or bar shoe. The bar joins the heels of the shoe and is rounded i.e. it extends back from the heels creating an egg like shape (hence the name). The shoe supports the palmar/plantar structures in the hoof and is used as a therapeutic shoe after injury of tendons and ligaments in the distallimb.

Fer allongé et de forme ovale comptant parmi les fers fermés (fers à planche ou à éponges réunies). Par son prolongement vers l'arrière, le fer offre davantage de surface d'appui et diminue ainsi l'enfoncement dans le sol en talons. Il est utilisé notamment comme fer thérapeutique pour les pathologies du fléchisseur profond ou de la podotrochlée.
