Rainscald
A disease of the skin which occurs as a result of continuous exposure to moisture, for example on the back and croup or horses kept outside in wet conditions or on the front of the cannon bones in horses which have their legs hosed down daily. The symptoms usually start as tufts of hair which are easily pulled out and progress to scabs and pustules over a larger area. The disease is caused by a bacterium called Dermatophilus congolensis, which is frequently present on the skin of healthy horses and is easily transmittable from horse to horse as well as from horse to humans. To invade the skin, the bacterium requires small wounds or moisture softened skin.

La maladie survient chez les chevaux laissés sur des pâturages boueux, humides ou exposés aux pluies. La région touchée présente des nodules voire des papules parfois suintantes et croûteuses; les poils sont collants et tombent facilement.
La maladie est contagieuse et, en présence de petites plaies ou d'une peau ramollie par l'humidité, peut se transmettre de cheval à cheval et du cheval à l'homme (zooanthroponose).

Bezeichnung für eine Hauterkrankung wie sie in der feuchten Jahreszeit bei Pferden auftritt, welche auf der Weide häufig nasser Witterung ausgesetzt sind. Das typische Erscheinungsbild geht über Knötchen über Quaddeln und verklebte Haare, die leicht ausfallen. Der Erreger ist das Bakterium Dermatophilus congolensis. Die Erkrankung ist von Pferd zu Pferd und von Pferd zu Mensch ansteckend. Voraussetzung sind kleine Verletzungen oder durch Nässe aufgeweichte Haut.
