A field of biology or (veterinary) medicine, which focusses on the study of the structural setup of bodies (animal and plant). It is concerned with the physical properties (e.g. shape, size, location) of organs, tissues, and cells, and it provides the basis for understanding their function.

The part of the hoof wall that is turned forwards at the heels, towards the apex of the frog. It has the same structure as the toe, quarter and heel region of the hoof wall. The bars form the abaxial edge of the medial and lateral sulci of the frog, and usually extend about two thirds of the length of the frog before tapering into the sole.

Besteht aus einem Wandteil und einer Fortsetzung des Tragrandes. Der Wandteil bildet etwa 1/2 bis 2/3 der abxialen Begrenzung der seitlichen Strahlfurchen. Die Eckstrebe soll ein zu starkes nach aussen weichen der Trachten verhindern.

Horny structure without hair or sweat glands on the fore and hind limbs of horses. They can vary greatly in size and shape but are generally oblong, between 2 and 7 cm long and between 1 and 4 cm wide. On the forelimb they are found on the inside of the forearm a hand's width above the carpus, on the hindlimb they are low down on the inside of the hock. The chestnut is thought to be a vestigial wrist pad of the first toe. Due to its highly individual shape, it can be used to identify equines.

- sur le membre postérieur, également au niveau de la surface interne, dans la région inférieure du tarse.
Les châtaignes sont considérées comme des vestiges du premier doigt (torus carpien et tarsien).
La taille et la forme des châtaignes étant propres à chaque individu, elles peuvent servir à l'identification d'un cheval.
