A system of straps fitted to the horse's head to help a rider (or a handler) control a horse's movement. Usually holds a bit in a horse's mouth. Often made of leather, but may also be made of rope or synthetic straps.
The parts of an English bridle include headpiece, noseband, cheek pieces, throat lash, browband, and the bit to which reins are attached. Most western bridles do not include a noseband and some have no browband. Bit-less bridles have no bit and the reins are typically attached to a noseband.

Dans les filetages Whitworth (ou BSW pour British Standard Whitworth) l'angle du filet fait 55° et les pas sont donnés en nombre de filet par pouce et non en millimètres comme dans le filetage métrique SI (système international). Le filet BSW est relativement gros et résistant.

carpal injury
An injury caused by a horse tripping and falling onto its knees. It is a type of injury which may happen repeatedly and can leave typical scars (hairless patches and calluses). This type of injury may be the result of a horse being shod with excessively long toes, or any orthopaedic disorder which leads to a reduced arc of flight and predisposes to the hoof catching on the ground during the swing phase .

Brown horse
A type of minor haematoma caused by blunt trauma. The trauma leads to damage of small blood vessels which leads to blood seeping into surrounding tissue. In the acute period they are a source of pain and can cause a reddish discolouration of surrounding tissue. In bruising of the hoof, the pain may lead to lameness and the bleeding may discolour the horn.

A gait abnormality where the hoof of a limb in the protraction phase strikes the medial side of the contralaterallimb in the stance phase. The point of contact can be anywhere between the coronary band and the carpus (knee) in the forelimb or proximal cannon in the hindlimb.The injury caused by this type of interference ranges from patches of roughened hair to open wounds. The regions of the hoof responsible for the interference include toe, quarter and heel.

Allure défectueuse du cheval. Le cheval se touche et se blesse: on observe des atteintes répétées provoquées par le sabot en soutien heurtant le membre à l'appui. Le cheval se coupe en général sur le côté médial du membre. La hauteur des blessures varie, allant de l'articulation du carpe au bord coronal sur le membre antérieur et du canon au bord coronal sur le membre postérieur.
Les marques peuvent aller de poils hérissés, usés (on dit que le cheval se frise), à des régions dépilées, voire à des cicatrices ou des plaies ouvertes.
Selon l'endroit (non l'endroit où le cheval se coupe, mais selon la région du fer qui le coupe) on dit que le cheval se coupe en talons, en mamelles, en quartier ou en pince.

Bewegungsstörung des Pferdes. Streifen oder Streichen ist das wiederholte seitliche Anschlagen des Hufes einer vorschwingenden Gliedmasse gegen die stützende Gliedmasse. In der Regel streicht das Pferd an der Innenseite der Gliedmasse. Die Höhe der Streichspuren variiert an der Vordergliedmasse von Karpalgelenk bis Kronrand, an der Hintergliedmasse von der Röhre bis zum Kronrand. Die Spuren reichen von rauhen, aufgestellten Haaren über haarlose Stellen bis zu Narben und offenen Wunden.
Je nachdem welcher Teil des Hufes die kontrolaterale Gliedmasse berührt unterscheidet man Trachten-, Seiten- oder Zehenstreifen.

A boot made of leather, plastic, neoprene or felt that is attached to the cannon region of horses' limbs to prevent injury through interference from another limb or through contact with a solid object (e.g. a jump). They consist of a flexible wrap that can be fixed to the leg with velcro straps, which is fitted with a hard or thicker patch of material or plastic, covering the inside of the cannon and fetlock region.
