Shore durometer
The Shore hardness is named after Albert Shore and is a measure of the hardness of elastomeres, polymers or rubbers. The Shore hardness is measured with a durometer made of a spring mounted hardened steel rod and is defined as a material's resistance to indentation. The depth of indentation at a defined pressure is the measure of a material's harness and is rated on a scale of 0 Shore (2.5 mm indentation depth) to 100 Shore (0 mm indentation depth). There are several different scales (most common A and D) which differ in terms of the type of durometer used - diameter of the steel rod, profile of the rod tip etc.
Shore hardness is an objective measure of the properties of various materials affixed to the horse's hoof in the form of shoes, pads and packing material.

La dureté Shore tient son nom d'Albert F. Shore (1876-1936), un industriel américain. Il a proposé un scléromètre afin de mesurer la dureté des élastomères et des matières plastiques, dont la valeur est basée sur les normes DIN 53505 et DIN 7868.
Pour définir la dureté Shore, on emploie un duromètre équipé d'un pénétrateur en acier trempé. Sur les modèles analogiques on mesure grâce à un ressort et à un cadran gradué l'enfoncement dans le matériau.
Les mesures se rapportent aux échelles Shore, dont les plus utilisées sont les A et D, et qui vont de 0 Shore (enfoncement de 2,5 mm) à 100 Shore (enfoncement de 0 mm). Un chiffre élevé indique donc une grande dureté.

Die Shore-Härte, benannt nach Albert Shore, ist ein Werkstoffkennwert für Elastomere und Kunststoffe und ist in den Normen DIN 53505 und DIN 7868 festgelegt. Die Shore-Härte wird mit einem federbelasteten Stift aus gehärtetem Stahl gemessen. Die Eindringtiefe dieses Stahlstifts in das zu prüfende Material ist ein Mass für die entsprechende Shore-Härte, die auf einer Skala von 0 Shore (2.5 mm Eindringtiefe) bis 100 Shore (0 mm Eindringtiefe) gemessen wird. Eine hohe Zahl bedeutet eine grosse Härte.
