pelvis

Definition

A large skeletal structure, connecting the spine and the hindlimbs. The pelvic skeleton consists of a pair of hip bones, (which in turn consist of the ilium, the pubis and the ischium bones), which are connected to the sacrum by a tough fibrous joint (ileosacral joint). The pelvis forms the proximal part of the hip joints which articulate with the femur.
