metal inert gas welding (MIGW) /Definition
This is a semi-automatic or automatic arc welding process in which a continuous and consumable wire electrode is fed through a welding gun under constant application of a shielding gas (usually carbon dioxide or argon).

Procédé de soudage à l'arc. Le soudeur active simultanément le fil d'apport, dévidé à vitesse constante et de façon motorisée, et la protection gazeuse: la buse à gaz diffuse le gaz de protection (dioxyde de carbone ou gaz rare - souvent l'argon) afin d'éviter une oxydation.
Note: MIG signifie Metal inert gas et MAG Metal active gas. On les utilise selon le type de gaz employé.
MIG (Metall-Inert-Gas; reaktionsträge Gase) ist ein Lichtbogenschmelzschweissen, bei dem der abschmelzende Schweissdraht von einem Motor kontinuierlich nachgeführt wird. Gleichzeitig wird die Schweissstelle über eine Düse mit Kohlendioxid oder einem Edelgas (häufig Argon) zum Schutz vor Oxidation begast.
