gallop
Definition
An asymmetric four beat gait in which the horse is capable of achieving high speeds, with a footfall pattern left hind > right hind > left fore > right fore followed by a suspension phase. As it is an asymmetric gait, the gallop has a leading forelimb which is subject to a slightly greater protraction than the trailing forelimb. The footfall pattern above refers to a right lead gallop; a left lead gallop has a mirrored image footfall pattern: right hind > left hind > right fore > left fore.

C'est l'allure la plus rapide du cheval. Selon la vitesse, il peut s'agir d'une allure à trois temps (vitesse moyenne) ou à quatre temps (très lente ou très rapide). En fonction du membre antérieur posé en dernier, on parle de galop à droite ou à gauche. Le galop est une allure asymétrique.
Déroulement du galop à gauche: postérieur droit > postérieur gauche et antérieur droit (bipède diagonal droit, en 3 temps; en 4 temps différé) > antérieur gauche puis phase de projection.
Déroulement du galop à droite: postérieur gauche > postérieur droit et antérieur gauche (bipède diagonal gauche, en 3 temps; en 4 temps différé) > antérieur droit puis phase de projection.
Schnellste Gangart des Pferdes. Je nach Geschwindigkeit kann es sich um eine 3-Taktgangart (mittlere Geschwindigkeit, dann auch Kanter genannt) oder 4-Taktgangart (sehr langsam oder sehr schnell) handeln.
Je nachdem welches Vorderbein weiter vorgeführt wird spricht man von Linksgalopp oder Rechtsgalopp. Linksgalopp: Bewegungsfolge: rechts hinten > links hinten und rechts vorne (im 3-Takt synchron, im 4-Takt zeitversetzt) > links vorne, dann Schwebephase. Rechtsgalopp: links hinten > rechts hinten und links vorne (im 3-Takt synchron, im 4-Takt zeitversetzt) > rechts vorne, dann Schwebephase.
