peripheral nervous system
Definition
All the structures of the nervous system that lie outside the brain and spinal column (which make up the central nervous system). It includes a vast number of nerves that connect every body part to the central nerves system. The peripheral nervous system is divided into two functional units; the autonomic and the somatic nervous systems.
