A complex joint between the lower leg and the hind cannon bone of the horse. The joint consists of 4 levels; the tarsocrural joint between the tibia and the talus is a hinge joint with a large range of movement in one plane, the other levels consist of the small hock joints (the proximal and distal intertarsal joint and the tarso-metatarsal joint). The small hock joints have an extremely limited range of movement.

Elle est constituée de quatre étages d'articulations: la plus proximale est l'articulation tarso-crurale, qui, en tant qu'articulation trochléaire, permet une forte amplitude de flexion et d'extension; les trois autres étages d'articulations sont moins mobiles: il s'agit des articulations intertarsiennes proximale et distale et de l’articulation tarso-métatarsienne.
Zusammengesetztes Gelenk zwischen Unterschenkel und Röhrbein des Pferdes. Besteht aus 4 Gelenksetagen, wobei die oberste das Unterschenkel-Hinterfusswurzelgelenk ist, welches als Schraubengelenk eine ausgiebige Beugung und Streckung erlaubt. Die 3 unteren Gelenksetagen sind wenig beweglich und werden deshalb auch als straffe Gelenke bezeichnet.
