A tool used to start the nail hole openings in the ground side of the shoe. The head of the stamp must have the same dimensions as the head of the nail to be used and is tapered to a point. The stamp is applied to the ground surface of the hot shoe and struck with a hammer. The stamp should not fully penetrate the foot side of the shoe, as the hole is finished off with another tool (the pritchel).
