withers

Definition

Anatomical region of the horse at the transition between the neck and the back. Created by the long spinous processes of the first few thoracic vertebrae. The highest point of the withers is where the height of the horse is measured (distance between this point and the ground).

Widerrist , m

Anatomische Region des Pferderückens, welche durch die langen Dornfortsätze der ersten Brustwirbel mehr oder weniger prominent zwischen Halsansatz und Sattellage hervorragt. Mit der Widerristöhe wird bei Pferd und Hund das Stockmass angegeben. Gemessen wird vom höchsten Punkt des Widerristes senkrecht zum Boden.
